We run Try Dive sessions on Wednesday evenings throughout the year, and it’s the perfect way to get an idea of this exciting sport.
Our minimum age requirement for try dives is 12, in line with BSAC’s minimum age requirement for the Ocean Diver course.
We hire the pool at Prior Park College in Bath for training and member use every Wednesday. It’s a great place to try diving for the first time.
One of our instructors will be your guide. They will show you the basic SCUBA equipment and how to assemble it, then take you into the pool to show you how to breathe and move under water.
Try Dives cost £50, which includes access to the pool as well as all equipment.
Our try dive sessions start at 19:40. We have access to the pool from 20:00-21:00, so we ask you to be changed and ready to maximise your time in the pool. After the pool session, we meet at The Cross Keys pub in Combe Down, Bath.

What to expect
- Meet your instructor
- Learn about the scuba equipment, how it works and how to assemble it
- Kit up in the pool with help from your instructor
- Familiarise yourself with the equipment with demonstration and guidance from your instructor
- Learn how to breath underwater and control your buoyancy
- Experience some of the basic skills you will learn on the full Ocean Diver course
- Have fun and enjoy your first dive!
What to bring
- A swimsuit
- A t-shirt to wear in the pool
- A pair of socks (optional but can make the fins more comfortable)
At the social session afterwards, we would explain all you need to know about the club, the training and the equipment, and answer any questions you might have.
If you enjoyed it and want to learn to dive, we would enter you on the Ocean Diver course, which teaches you to dive at up to 20m depth. There is no charge for the lessons from our instructors, but BSAC charge for the documentation, and you will need to borrow our kit (small charges apply) if you don’t have your own. We offer an all-in package of documentation, kit and air fills, so you can budget your costs at the start.
After you qualify, you are licensed to join us on our diving trips up to your qualification level, both at home and abroad, and to take on additional training to progress to higher skills levels.
