29th/30th June 2002
This was our first time out with Bill Bowen on 'Son Caliu' for some time. With the usual last-minute shuffling of names, we finished up with 11 people on board, but this included a number of newcomers to 'Son Caliu'. This was also the Penzance festival weekend, though most of us missed the fireworks display on Friday night.
The weather was OK - not too fine, not too bad, though it cooled down a bit on Sunday and got a little choppy. Despite this, we had an excellent weekend.
Saturday; Dive 1; Logans Rock.
The tides were wrong for the Runnel Stone, so we opted for Logans Rock - ideal for the PADI converts who were gaining experience and increasing their depth. Viz very good.
Dive 2; The Bucks
The current was picking up a bit off shore, but the viz was excellent.
We ate in 'The Yacht' near the swimming pool, which could provide a table big enough for us all. The food was OK, but because of the festival, the glasses were all plastic.
Sunday; Dive 3; Hellops/Alice.
Not all the party wanted or were ready for the Hellops, so we split the dive with half doing the Alice. Pete, Dave and Michael managed to go to the bow, instead of the stern, and were followed by Anna and Isa. They ascended up the line on the bow, only to find the buoy was at 9m!
Dive 4; Low Lee
In order to let Bill catch the falling tide, we opted to do Low Lee. Viz again excellent. This was the first sight of a cannon underwater for some. Kevin continued to enhance his reputation for fiddling with marine life by attempting to touch a blue button on the sea floor, only to find it attached to a rather large angler fish (it was its eye).
